Transforming from a model to an influencer, the all-rounded designer Lilian Kan has made her way to the fashion world by creating her fashion label Kanalili. Having more than just a pretty face, Lilian is revered for her incredible talents and attitudes. She is living in the dream of every girl, being brilliant in many aspects of work and life. Yet, her success has never been easy to attain. To turn her dream into reality, she spent all her savings on starting her business and all her time creating. In the view of the Hong Kong tourbillon brand Memorigin, her pursuit of perfection and aesthetics always brings her charm. In 2017, the watch brand invited Lilian to design a strap with the theme of hydrangea. After four years, Memorigin worked with her brand instead to launch the Kanalili Collection – Sora tourbillon watch.
‘Whenever I look up to the sky, I can feel how small I am and how insignificant my worries are.’ When asked about the design inspiration, Lilian answered the sky straight away, as it had been her great comfort. ‘I hope the sky that I designed on the watch will bring positivity and relief to the wearers. Creating a lovely mood booster is even more satisfying.’ Kanalili’s womenswear has always been elegant and dreamy. Lilian took up the challenge to design accessories that resonate with her style.
The Kanalili Collection – Sora tourbillon watch has a mother-of-pearl dial in blue and white color. Its array of interesting colors and variations resembles the enchanting sky with iridescent clouds in layers. Glittering white diamonds are embedded around the moon and stars embossed on the dial. The day-and-night indicator lies at the 3 o’clock position. The rotating tourbillon movement reminds you that life goes on. Facing troubles with joy seems better than with sorrow. The silver stainless-steel watch case comes with a white alligator strap. As its simplicity and cleanliness imply the Japanese minimalism, the watch is named Sora (そら): the Japanese of “sky”.
Memorigin’s tourbillon in this watch is a manual-winding movement with 40 hours of power reserve and a vibration frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour. When wearers wind the watch, the sky on the dial will “generate” positive energy to the mind. Lilian also prepared an impressive surprise in the design. She ordered blue and white preserved flowers from Japan and decorated each watch box with floral art by herself. Her attentiveness to details has made every watch unique. Graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Fashion and Textile, she established her own women’s couture brand, Kanalili in 2014. She has also published 4 books since 2015. She worked with various fashion brands in fashion designs and brand promotions and was also invited by several organizations to take charge of the company’s brand image and uniform designs.
