Wu Guoting, a well-known contemporary Chinese artist, was the pioneer of new Chinese painting. He modified the traditional Chinese painting style by integrating the realistic creativity and expressive skills of Western painting with the abstract and freehand Chinese ink painting. While his paintings are characterized by this unique style, he advocates “a combination of form and spirit” in drawings so that they are more visionary and pleasing to be appreciated. Adhering to the concept of promoting this cultural essence to the world, Memorigin has worked with Mr. Wu to put his famous paintings onto the dials of tourbillon watches., creating the Heritage Series.
Two flower-and-bird paintings, “Late Autumn” and “Loving Bird Couples on the Branch” are selected. Mr. Wu is good at fusing sceneries with perceptions. His works embody indescribable expressions. “Late Autumn” always gives people a bland feeling, yet Mr. Wu emphasizes it with the perching birds. The designer of Memorigin specially chose a rose-gold-plated stainless-steel case and a brown alligator strap to match the warm yellow tone of the season, injecting a sense of elegance to the watch.
As its name implies, “Loving Bird Couples on the Branch" tells the story of a pair of loving birds, therefore Memorigin offers two versions of tourbillon watches for couples. Men's wear is dominated by royal blue. Its case is set with sparkling diamonds and sapphires to match the blue watercolor background in the painting, creating a clear and soft visual effect. The ladies one extends the white feathers of the bird to the watch design. The diamond-encrusted case, the silver-white luminous hands, and the pearl-white alligator strap add a noble and refined feeling to the watch.
This is the first time that Memorigin adds elements of Chinese painting to the design of tourbillon watches. The combination of Chinese and Western art highlights its uniqueness. The tourbillon at 6 o'clock rotates continuously on the painting. Not only does it provide a 40-hour power reserve for the watch, but it also makes the scenes in the painting more vivid. A good painting requires audience to slowly appreciate and understand its artistic conception therein. The Heritage Series tourbillon watches will keep these new Chinese paintings created by Mr. Wu and pass it from one generation to another.
